Security
The price you pay to store may not be so cheap if your
goods are missing when you go to get them. Mint has these
features--make sure the facility you rent at has them
too.
Cylinder Locks on all Doors: Inexpensive pad locks are easily picked
and normal pad locks are easy to cut with bolt cutters.
Barrel locks recess into the door, leaving nothing to
cut, and the cylinder keys used with them are almost impossible
to pick.
Individual Door
Alarms: Door alarms not only provide backup protection
to locks, they allow the self storage facility to track
the times and dates your space was accessed. This can
be very beneficial to businesses and individuals who have
authorized more then one person to access the space.
Monitored Door Alarms: The
door alarm must be responded to. A security company should
be immediately dispatched on every alarm. Gate
Access Controls: Key pad activated entrance gates
keep non-authorized people out while allowing tenants
easy access to their spaces while recording the times
and dates of entry. CCTV
at Entrance: Closed circuit TVs with digital tape
recorders provide a physical description of the people
and vehicles which enter and exit the facility. In combination
with gate access and door alarms, a complete history of
the facility is recorded. CCTV
throughout the facility: Strategically located
cameras throughout the facility deter any potential perpetrators.
Perimeter Fencing: Chain
link fences topped with barbed wire around the perimeter
make entry and exit into the storage centre difficult
and offer clear sight lines which also deters vandalism.
Lighting: A well lit
facility is a safer facility. Monitored
Fire Alarms: Do not store combustible materials.
If a fire does break out the fire company must be responded
to immediately. Individual
Sprinkler Heads: Each unit must have its own sprinkler
head to quickly extinguish any fire.
